My Morning Started At Midnight

Why didn't I take my own advice?

11:30pm last night.... (I'm in bed mind you)...... I hear my text.
Two minutes later.... my cell phone rings.
Five minutes later.... my cell phone rings again.
I get out of bed and listen to "frantic" messages from our tenant about water dripping and decide she is smart enough to either 1- turn off the water or 2- call a plumber .... turn off my ringer and go back to bed.
Five minutes later.... the house phone rings. Incredible Husband and I lay there talking ourselves out of calling her back... but we did. IH called her back and she is practically crying b/c there is water dripping in the basement after she took a shower.

Like our kids.... he gave her two choices.... He said "It's after midnight and I can't do anything anyway. You have two choices .... either turn off the water or I can give you the name of a plumber that can came out now." She immediately starts in with the "I want you to fix this now" comments and IH stands firm that those are her only two choices. He then walks her through how to turn off the water to the house.

We have been tenants for two years now ourselves... never have we made a call like this to our landlords! Nor would we even think to. We either fix it ourselves or call them (at a reasonable hour) and ask them if we can call someone to repair it. I hope our kids never grow up to be demanding "do this for me now" type people.... I hope they grow up to be their own problem solvers and responsible.

I'm off to take Baby I and Little L for their one and two year old checkups... this should be an adventure to write about! LOL!

Oh and... stop and pick up our rent check and check out the "damage" at our rental house. Rent is late because she addressed it to our number but her streetname. Nice.

I do not want to be a landlord!

Yes, may we all be problem solvers, not problem keepers!

Once again we had similar experiences. My day started around the same time with a new baby feeding and then my E got up right when I was going back to bed and was crying for yogurt (he didn't eat well at dinner). So we were up together for the next two hours discussing important topics to 2 year olds like Dora, airplanes, and fireworks. By the time I got him back to sleep, the baby was up again for a feeding! I have a newborn and one year old checkup to attend to today. Wish you lived closer to me. We could really come up with some fun times together :0)

I agree with what you said about so many people growing up to be Me Monsters, living in the Right Now. It's so hard to explain to people who were raised/trained by the world that no one is entitled to anything, and that we have to respect everyone (including our landlords for goodness sake!) and work for the things we get. Ahhh, I could rant a whole page front and back about some of the examples I've come across in my very short 26 years of people who feel entitled to everything right now and it's frustrating, but you still handled the issue well!

Oh no! You need to turn all ringers off at night! They certainly aren't problem solvers huh? Praying it all gets fixed asap and that the next time they can figure out the right thing to do!
